Nebraska
A useful trend cropping up on many state’s web pages is a link on the front page to many of the useful business sites available through government pages. Nebraska has followed this trend. The “For Business” link on their mainpage leads to licensing information, forms, a helpful business toolkit, and other entrepreneurial goodies. The Cornhusker State is taking good advantage of the power of the internet.
Business Registration
The Corporate Division of the Office of the Secretary of State handles corporate, limited liability company, and limited partnership filings, as well as trademark and tradename registration. Forms and a fee schedule are available in PDF format. The Secretary’s site does not provide information regarding the actual process of starting a business, but that information is available through the Department of Economic Development.
Development
Nebraska Business Assistance’s pages at the Department of Economic Development provide a number of links to helpful information, including a guide to doing business in Nebraska. The guide gives some information on licensing, taxes, and the incorporation process. Also available at the Department's site are state laws on business subjects, financing links, articles on starting a business, tax information, intellectual property resources, and links to many other useful sites. It’s a pleasure to see so much useful and accessible information in one place.
Taxes
Revenue Statutes, a full compliment of tax forms, newsletters, and Revenue Rulings can be found at the site of the Nebraska Department of Revenue. The Information Guides are also helpful.
Legislature
In terms of the information provided, the Nebraska Legislature has one of the best state legislative sites online. I found the history pages, in the section on “Learning about the Unicameral,” to be very interesting reading.
