Secretary of State

The Office of the Secretary of State oversees corporate filings, trademarks, elections, UCC filings, and other functions. The specific office under the Secretary of State involving business is the Commercial Division, which has a helpful Business Entities page. Forms, fee schedules, and some nice publications are available.

Commerce

The Department of Commerce has a useful site which is definitely worth a visit. You can download a PDF format copy of their pamphlet called “Starting a Business in Idaho,” which is possibly the definitive guide to setting up a business in Idaho.

Taxes

Contact information, forms in PDF format, the option to file electronically, and the ability to search for unclaimed property are available at the Idaho State Tax Commission. However, to find information about the tax implications of choosing different business organization formats, or the different tax obligations you may incur in operating a business, you will have to look elsewhere. There is a little information on the subject, but only a little.
